TimoLiebenEnglishinterview
-Hello Timo, we are delighted to have a rider so important to us, thank you very much for accepting the interview.
T: Thanks for asking me XD
-Could you tell us what do you like to doing, where do you live, your name ... a personal file.
T: I am Timo Lieben born 1978 in Berlin and actually living in Schwarzenbach. I moved here 3 years ago to bring BerlinWood to a next step together with Blackriver-Ramps. Besides Fingerboarding I do skill-toys in all directions like Astrojax, Diabolos, Yo-Yos but also keep on drawing on ramps and walls oftener.
-What Blackriver means for you?
T: It became a huge and unexpected part of my life. A second family. Fingerboarding would not be close to what it is today without Martin Ehrenberger and people around him who allways supported it in all directions. I have been in so many places and met so awesome people just because of fingerboarding and this worldwide known skull.
-When did you start to do fingerboard? Why?
T: I bought my first plastic fingerboard in dezember 1999. In that moment, I didn´t knew about doing an ollie or any tricks, it was just a small skateboard... and my plan was to roll with it a bit over the desktop ha ha But a few days later I found a store in berlin selling a ramp and a video, and when Matt Johnson explained how to jump and flip, I didn´t believed my eyes 8D This was the moment I knew I want to learn that, and didn´t stopped fingerboarding until today.
-Right now ... What fingerboard do you have (setup)?
T: I am actually using a red BW wide limited FastFingers16 deck. It´s great and something special to me, beeing the first available BW lasered deck Wide BRR trucks and white whinkler wheels.
-What is your dream as fingerboarder?
T: To do most tricks allways first try maybe ha ha
I luckily realised some of my dreams already and can´t believe it still brings new.
-What do you feel knowing that you are known worldwide for being a great fingerboarder?
T: Fame is nothing, friendships is everything! XD
-How is your house? I mean ... Do you have it full of things about this world?
T: Its called "Am Steig" and together with Martin Winkler and Thomas Hansen I fill it up with funny stuff and things XD
Thomas:
Martin:
-Tell us a little about your life, how is a normal day with you?
T: Wake up 6am starting production at 7am in the BRR Company. Getting home between 4-7pm. Back to the Steig and doing different things at the house. Hansen really often cooks great things and we also often have visitors here. Around 11-12pm back to bed 8D
-What person do you don't want to miss ever in the fb?
T: EVERYBODY! way too many good friendships in the past years!
-Do you think the fingerboard is only a small part in your life or devote to this hobby?
T: It ruined my life ha ha ha
-How you decide to start with Berlinwood, why, and for what ...
T: Everybody in that time was using plastic decks and we all were looking for the next step: wooden decks! a few handmade were made by some people here at blackriver, but nothing serious. It was just for a small circle of people and we all wanted to make wooden decks professional available to everybody. I luckily found a good production in Berlin and started BerlinWood only because everybody was asking for them and I had the opportunity to be distributed over Blackriver besides... it just grew together without any big purpose or expection.
-Do you think Berlinwood and Blackriver have been and are the best global fingerboard brands?
T: Its not about being the best...its about pushing fingerboarding! And I guess we pushed it a lot XD
-Have you ever think to do a World Tour?
T: We traveled so much places and for sure we will continue in the next years but... a world tour is something that needs much money, planning and time. I guess visiting as much places and countries as possible is our prior mission XD
-What fingerboard event do you like the best?
T: I enjoy contest and meets! FastFingers is awesome and grew so much in the last years! You meet so many great people from all over the world there. But I also like smaller jams or meets. Theres not allways a winner needed to have a good time together XD
-What is your favorite shape?
T: actually classic wide
-And your favorite trick ....?
T: flat: impossibles or frontside heelflips
ramp: kickflip nosestall or backside flips
In the tittle say backside, but is frontside.
-Do you skateboard?
T: skatewhat? XD with your feets? serious...no. ha ha ha
I started a few times to roll down a street and I really own a Elias Assmuth handcarved 9inch deck, but I just dont really get used to it ha ha I am a skatefail.
-Of all Berlinwood fingerboards ... What is your favorite?
T: Thats a hard question because I put a lot of work into a few designs myself like the "WoodWars" and really love our artists collabos with Shin Tanaka and Tougui.
-Berlinwood has been the revolution in the world of fingerboard, will it close one day?
T: Hopefully not! XD Every deck that rides supports us to continue! And I guess most of us wouldn´t stop even if things were already closed ha ha Its a heart thing!
-I would like to make a request in the mouths of many fingerboarders ...you know many people in this scene, and you control a lot in all aspects, I would ask all those who organizer the Battle at the Harrics 4 if you could put a twitcam so we could see you from around the world ... Do you accept my request?
T: Maybe there will be a cam for the next Battle but thats not my buisness ha ha. I guess ASI crew is already working on that...
-Ok Timo, thank you very much for being here and for helping us ... would you like to greet someone or add something else?
T: Much thanks for the interview and to everybody who supports us! FBing4Life!
